Felted wool is humanity's first fabric, and a wonderful medium for artistic expression. In this exciting workshop you'll work with a luscious palette of roving colors. Students will start by learning to make solid felt balls and move on to felting around a rock to create a doorstop. Once these 2 basic techniques have been mastered, students will have the choice to create an adorable felted snowman or felted jewelry. Enjoy making old-fashioned craft items using materials gathered from nature. Finished projects include an acorn photo frame, milkweed Santa's, tiny floating candles, and other holiday crafts. If time permits, students will also learn the art of papermaking. Participants must be able to independently use a hot glue gun. The Oriental Institute Museum is a worldrenowned showcase for the history, art, and archaeology of the ancient Near East. The museum displays objects recovered by Oriental Institute excavations in permanent galleries devoted to ancient Egypt, Nubia, Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Anatolia, and the ancient site of Megiddo, as well as rotating special exhibits.
